Five Days

With five days to go before I fully become a parent again for the next several months, I have gone to the gym, worked some and plan to hit a bucket of golf balls later this afternoon. Taking care of business is my main focus and being a parent to my boy is rewarding beyond words. Having said that, I admit that these free days have become restful, though they were not at first. Nights have been too quiet and too infrequently included deep rest. Just knowing we're all under one roof and that nobody is flying through the air will be a relief. I pray for the safety of my boy as he flies west on Monday morning, toward home and his old dad.
Now if I could just get him a Ferrari Enzo for his coming home gift, I'd be the best dad in the world!

I want a new DS!
I called my 9-year-old son in TX yesterday and all he wanted was for me to buy him a new Nintendo DS because his existing DS isn't working right! His mom has already said no and I said no as well. Now he's bitter and crying and despondent because I won't drop $135 instantly on a new one. What happened to reading a book? Have I become an old man before my time?

17 Days To Go

My son returns to me in 17 days. His room is lonely and empty, and I am lost without my precious boy. Soon we will be golfing, playing soccer and running fullspeed toward the future. How can I have a 4th grader, anyway? I pray that God keeps him safe and that we have many more years in the fog of Morro Rock.
