Though the sun hovers over the Tropic of Cancer and summer begins it's long burn of crystalline days and glorious, drawn out evenings, another two weeks remains of my son's annual visit to his mom in Texas. It will have been an entire month this year, during which my wife and I have gone to Miami and out to Key West before the oil reaches those white sand beaches and clear, irridescent waters.
The separation is incrementally easier this year as my boy grows taller by the day. He turned 10 in February and stands nearly 5-feet tall, just about eye to eye with my wife. Our 8-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy will also return to us in fourteen days, bringing normalcy and sweet cacophany back to our home. It has been far too quiet there, though the peace is welcome and not uncomfortable as it has been on occasion in the past. Our lives are centered on each other and our wonderful children. A fortnight will bring us full circle.
